Infrastructure

The Infrastructure page (sidebar → Infrastructure, also (the page you land on after logging in) is where your fleet is located: each zone, subzone, group, and node, organized in a tree on the left and listed in detail on the right.

Stranola organizes the machines into up to four levels:

Zona
└─ Subzona (opcional)
└─ Grupo
└─ Nodo
  • A zone is the top-level container—a building, a campus, a client's headquarters.
  • A subzone is optional—a room or a floor within a zone. A group can be directly under a zone without any subzones.
  • A group is a set of machines that are deployed together — usually a classroom or a rack. Each node belongs to exactly one group (or none).
  • A node is a physical or virtual machine.

Machines that do not yet belong to any group appear under a the "No Group" container, and groups that do not belong to any zone appear under "No zone" — nothing is ever hidden just because it doesn't have a father.

Creation/Editing Modes

All four levels share the same format: a name (required), an optional description, and an icon that you can leave at its default value by default, or choose from a grid of icons using the search function.

  • Zone: name, description, icon.
  • Subzone: name, description, icon — created within a zone (selected from the context, e.g., from the "+" button in that area).
  • Group: name, description, icon, and optionally the name of a subzone (enter a new one or select an existing one from the suggestions) — Leave it blank so that it appears directly below the area.
  • Node: hostname, MAC address (accepts aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff, AA-BB-CC-DD-EE-FF or AABBCCDDEEFF — all are normalized (automatically), an optional IP, the group to which it belongs, a description optional (displayed next to your name — useful for "row 3, position 2"), and any number of tags (type a type a word and press Enter — learn more about what tags are used for below). When you register a new node, you also choose which device to disk will clone from/to (e.g., /dev/sda); once created, the The device is selected at the time of deployment.

The four levels can be edited or deleted from the same menus described below.

The Navigation Tree

The left pane is a tree view of zones, subzones, and groups.

  • Collapse/Expand — click the chevron on any branch; a The toolbar button expands or collapses the entire tree blow.
  • Sort — a button on the toolbar sorts alphabetically the direct children of a zone (subzones and groups that are directly below it, together); any element you've attached to its place (see below) remains unchanged while the rest are rearranged to around him.
  • Drag and drop — drag a subzone or group to reorder it among his siblings, or drag it onto a different parent to move it there.
  • Create — the + New button in the header opens a menu for creating a zone, subzone, group, or node; smaller + icons appear by hovering the mouse directly over an area (to add a subarea) or a subzone (to add a group).
  • Right-click — right-clicking on an area (or its menu) opens the same actions described under Expand below, In addition to creating a subzone or group, you can edit and delete them.
  • Search — the search box above the tree filters the results to the matching subzones/groups (a subzone remains visible if (any of their groups match).
  • Edit / Delete — a pencil and a trash can icon are displayed in each row.

The Fleet List

The right-hand panel lists the nodes within whatever you have selected in the tree.

  • Move nodes — drag a node's row to a different group, or use the Move option in its context menu, which opens a small search box to enter the target zone, subzone, or group by name.
  • Lock (padlock) — a padlock icon in the row of a node, group, or The subzone keeps it anchored in its current position every time it runs the authority to give orders to his brothers.
  • Clone a node — The Clone command in the context menu opens the editing form pre-filled with that node's data (with "-clone" (added to the hostname) so you can register an almost identical machine in a couple of editions instead of starting from scratch.
  • Sort — click on a column header to sort the rows in that group by name, IP, MAC, or status; the context menu for a The group also offers a persistent sort order (saved, not just a view) (temporary).
  • Collapse/Expand — click on a group or subzone header to collapse its contents.
  • List view vs. card view — a toggle on the toolbar The tools toggle between a dense table and a card grid.
  • Icon Style — a toolbar switch changes the node icons between a specific device icon (deducted by MAC from the manufacturer) and a uniform icon for all machines.
  • Selection — click on a row to select only that row; Ctrl/⌘+click selects a row without deleting the rest; Shift+click Select a contiguous range starting from your last click; Ctrl/⌘+A (or Ctrl/⌘+E) selects all nodes currently visible throughout the page (taking into account any active search filters and any (collapsed group) — click it again once everything is selected Clear the selection. Click in an empty space, or press Esc, It also cleans it.
  • Copy data (Ctrl/⌘+C) — with nodes selected (or, if there are no none selected, all nodes of whatever is active in the tree) Copy one line per node — hostnames, IP addresses, or MAC addresses; you choose — a list to paste into a spreadsheet or another tool.

Wake-on-LAN

Modal Wake-on-LAN

All context menus—node, group, subzone, zone, or a selection with multiple nodes — offer Wake on LAN. Select Now to send the Get the magic package right away, or Schedule it for later: once you're in a specific date and time, or on a recurring basis using a schedule such as cron (several common templates, or a custom expression). A A scheduled power-on for a group or zone rechecks its members every time it goes off, so it always wakes up whatever is there at that moment inside, not what was there when you set it up.

Each boot attempt sends the magic packet several times, both to the network broadcast address or directly to the known IP address of the node, if you have it registered, with a small random delay per machine — reliable even on networks that occasionally lose some packets.

Node capture automatically registers unknown machines at the moment when that start up over the network — no more manually entering MAC addresses for a A classroom full of new PCs. Activate it for a zone, subzone, or group (from its context menu → Capture Nodes), select the network interface(s) listen, and any machine that starts at PXE there for the first time will automatically registers — using your hardware serial number as hostname — and it is located directly inside that container.

If the MAC address of a machine that is booting already matches a node you already have, You choose what happens: ignore it (leave it exactly where it is), overwrite the hostname (rename it to its serial number and move it to this container), or reassign its IP (release its current address to (so that DHCP can reassign it, and move it to this container).

History

History Panel

Each node and group maintains a timeline of what has actually happened to it past — deployments carried out and images captured of it, the most most recent first — accessible from the History menu item contextual. For any previous display that used a saved image (not a live master), a Redo button re-runs that same exact deployment right now.

Expand

All levels offer Expand from their context menu — a a single node, an entire group, a subzone, a zone, or a set of nodes that you've selected manually — they all open the same dialog box, except that headed for a different destination.

At a minimum, you will choose:

  • The recipe to use.
  • The master node from which to clone (if the recipe clones a disk to live instead of a saved image) or the image to be displayed (if using (one from the catalog).
  • The source and destination disk devices, when necessary select them explicitly.
  • If you awaken the destinies with Wake-on-LAN before starting, and if Open live consoles for automatic deployment.
  • What to do when each client finishes — nothing, restart, shut down, or Check the disk.

Click Expand Now, and you'll be taken directly to the panel at live, as described in Deployments.

Sort by label

Show by tag

Any context menu also offers Sort by Tag: choose one or more of the tags you have assigned to the nodes (see the (node form above), choose whether a machine needs any some of them or all of them, and Stranola shows you exactly which nodes match before continuing to the same deployment dialog — a quick way to target "all laptops," or "everything labeled aula-3," without having to look for them by hand in the tree first.
